Interaction and Education Are Part of Your Care
 |
Robert P. Cowan, M.D.
Keeler Center Cofounder and Medical Director |
Dr. Cowan is a neurologist with more than 20 years' experience
developing migraine management programs to help thousands of patients
reduce the severity and frequency of their attacks. He explains the program's success as follows:
"Unlike other clinics that care for chronic migraine sufferers, The Keeler Center focuses on the constant
and intimate interaction between patient care and laboratory research. In this respect, our program is truly
unique."
Personally and professionally, he knows migraine firsthand.
Dr. Cowan first got migraines in junior high and recalls missing school and athletic events, crying in a
darkened room and being taken to a psychiatrist. Even as a medical school student at the University of Southern California, he was
getting three migraines a week. Named Chief of the Headache Section in the Department of Neurology at USC in the mid-90s,
he left there in 2000 to focus all of his time and attention on the treatment of acute migraine sufferers. Today, Dr. Cowan gets only
several migraines a year and is an acknowledged, acclaimed migraine specialist.

He came to Pasadena from the National Institutes of Health (NIH)
where he developed the first test that identifies Mad Cow Disease.
Dr. Harrington's present research focuses on molecular analysis of spinal fluid to better understand
migraine, Alzheimer's disease, depression and other neurological diseases. He is an internationally recognized authority in the
field of proteomics. Dr. Harrington, like his close friend Dr. Cowan, is totally committed to finding the causes and best possible
treatments for migraine.
