Night after night, for more than a decade, Lisa woke up with a crushing migraine.
Her speech slurred. Her vision was so weak she felt like she was staring through a waterfall. There seemed to be
no end to it. She tried dozens of drugs, consulted many neurologists, and had to quit her job.
"I was living on pain pills," Lisa said. "I tried everything. Unless you're someone who
suffers from migraines, it's almost impossible to understand what you're going through." Lisa first met Dr. Robert
Cowan in 2002. By that time, she was taking narcotics.
Dr. Cowan immediately took her off the painkillers, prescribed medications to control her
condition, and told her how to avoid migraine-triggering events. He told Lisa how important it was to stick with the
same routine everyday. (How many cups of coffee not to drink. How much sleep she required.)
She also started using biofeedback, a technique that helps patients regulate their brain
waves. Dr. Cowan was the first to prescribe this holistic option for Lisa. And as Lisa attests, the results were
outstanding.
Dr. Cowan emphasizes The Keeler Center's primary purpose is to treat patients like Lisa
who suffer from accute severe migraines that can ruin their lives. "All patient care is customized. When prescribing
treatment, we choose from the full spectrum of scientifically-valid disciplines and treatment options. In Lisa's case
a holistic approach was both logical and exceptionally effective."
